What is the controversy around mental health? There are many different types of mental health such as anxiety, depression, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD), attention deficit disorder (ADD), various eating disorders, schizophrenia, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), bipolar disorder, and many more that are not taken seriously enough in today's society. Unfortunately, many mental illnesses are overlooked or dismissed by parents and/or guardians because mental illness is often not considered a real illness. Severe mental illnesses left untreated can lead to severe issues such as extreme behavioral problems, self harm, or even suicide. It is extremely important to be aware of different types of mental illnesses and look for signs. Never be afraid to seek therapy and talk about it.
Why is it important to talk about mental health? Â Without talking about mental health, there can be misunderstandings. When somebody is suffering from a mental illness, that person may not behave in "neurotypical" ways. Without talking about it and understanding it, this may lead to isolating discrimination and only make things worse for the individual who is suffering that mental illness. It is also important to talk about it because generally talking about it raises awareness.
