How do I check my student's grades?

What if my child has to miss school?
If your child has to miss school and I have previous notice, I will send home a packet of work. If not, I will work with your child to catch up when they return. Please send any doctor's notes or excuses to school with your child. REMEMBER, each student is allowed 5 absences.
What do we do on snow days?
If school is not in session due to inclement weather, the announcement will be made on KAIT and you will also receive a phone call. If we have prior notice, your student will be sent home with a few small assignments. Please try to work on these with your child so they can be turned in when we return to school.
Can my student bring electronics to school?
Sunnyside elementary has a policy that only allows the use of devices that can be monitored. We ask that any electronics brought from home, be powered off and kept in their backpack.
My child has to take medication during the school day. What do I do?
Our school nurse administer all medication during school hours. If your child has any medical concerns, please contact me so we can come up with accomodations.
Does my child have to have a note if they are going home with a friend or someone else if picking them up?
We ask that anyone picking up your child is on their authorized pick up list that is sent home with the registration packet. However, we understand that things come up. If your child is going home with another child, please send a note with the date, the person's name who will be picking them up, and your signature.
What if I have concerns about my child's grades/ behavior?
As your child's teacher, I want you to be able to bring your concerns to me. Please never hesitate to email me with any concerns and we can get it worked out. If necessary, we can set up an in person meeting.
What time does school officially start and end?
The school day starts at 8:15. If they arrive after this, you must walk them in and they will be counted as tardy. The school day ends at 3:15. Check outs end at 2:45.
What do I do if my child loses something at school (jacket, lunchbox, etc.)?
The lost and found is located in the front office. Any lost items will be turned in there. However, I recommend you put your child's name in all personal items they bring to school.
Do I need to send money with my child for school lunches?
No! Our school has a grant that covers all students breakfasts and lunches. If your child wishes to eat at school, they will just get the in lunch line rather than taking a seat. There is no need for prior notice or lunch money.
Are there any tutoring services?
We do offer after school tutoring services. If you wish to enroll your child, there are forms in the front office. You can specify on the form what you want your child to work on specifically. If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to contact me.
Are parents/guardians allowed to volunteer at the school?
Yes! Our school is always needing volunteers. The school will send out a monthy newletters informing parents about volunteer opportunities. In our classroom, I will send a newsletter weekly. Every week we have a mystery ready and this is a great way to get involved! Click here to sign up.
Will my child have a birthday celebration at school?
Yes! I love to celebrate birthdays! If you choose to send a birthday snack, please send enough for everyone (21). Also, we are a no peanut classroom.
Will there be any field trips?
My favorite part of my job is field trips. We usually go to the zoo each year. Sometimes, we will also take a picnic to Craighead Forest Park. For each of these, a permission slip will be sent home. YOUR CHILD CANNOT ATTEND IF THIS IS NOT RETURNED! We will also need chaperones for each of these.
Will my child have any homework?
For each unit, I will send home practice packets. While these are not required, I highly encourage you to work on these with your child. I also highly reccommend you make reading apart of your daily routine to help your child succeed.
