So I made the number 1 travel mistake leading up to our trip. I packed my suitcase the night before our flight. It took me about 3 hours worth of backing, but I was able to fit 4 weeks were of clothing and supplies into 1 suitcase! Yes! I am THE WORST over packer and worried that I would have to use a second suitcase. Luckily I made everything fit in a large suitcase and backpack. I've packed a variety of clothes that I can mix and match. This is key for packing less, FYI! I figured out how to pack casual clothes that can be dressed up and teaching clothes that can be dressed down. I think space ended up being my main concern while packing, so this was helpful.
If you haven't figured it out by now, I procrastinated on many things when preparing for this trip. I definitely recommend getting your money transferred into the correct currency well in advance. In Germany, they use the Euro. Apparently the American dollar used to be used in other countries, but now there are extra fees and regulations attached. It is very important to transfer your money to avoid these extra steps. AAA members can transfer their money into foreign currency free of charge, and they offer pre-paid money cards as well. Many of the international student teachers went with this route.
