Questions

There will be up to three minutes of questions following each student presentation, and up to five minutes of questions once both invited judges have presented.

Questions can be submitted on the day through the chat function, and you will be invited to speak by the chair.

Voting

A google doc. form will be uploaded to the chat at the beginning of each session for attendees to provide feedback per student presentation to decide upon a winner. You will be required to submit a new form per presentation (up to 5 forms per session).

The form should take no more than 30 seconds to complete!

Please submit feedback/voting forms ASAP following each student presentation.

YOU MUST COMPLETE THE FORM BEFORE VOTING CLOSES FOR IT TO BE COUNTED

Voting will close 2-3mins after final student presentation. Chair will provide instructions on the day and give warnings before closing the voting.

Feedback will be submitted to participants 48hrs after the event and will include both that from judges and audience members

Audience feedback will be anonymised.

Voting Criteria

Creative Stream

1. Communication of Research

· Did the presentation have a logical flow?

· Was there a clear understanding of the work presented?

· Was the research propagated in appropriate terms so as any divisions of MSD could understand the work?

2. Scientific Content

· Did the presentation clearly show results gained to date and the conclusions from them

· Was the content well explained?

3. Impact of Work

· Did they convey the significance of their work successfully?

· Could include relevance to further research in the field or wider applications

4. Originality

· Was the presentation novel/contain novel ideas?

· Did it still successfully convey the topic of the DPhil?

· Did any props etc. enhance the presentation of the work?

· Was it easy to follow?

5. Enthusiasm and Engagement

· Did they engage the audience and maintain their attention?

· Did it make the audience want to know more?

· Did they convey enthusiasm for their research?

6. Ability to Handle Questions

· Did the presenter successfully handle questions?

· Perhaps this allowed them to elaborate or bring new things not discussed in the original 2-5 minutes

Winners from each Heat will be entered into the grand finale, where cash prizes await!

All prizes will be awarded in during the grand finale.

Winners from each stream will receive a £60 cash prize and invitation for presentation/poster at the 2021 MSD DPhil Day.

Runners up from each stream will receive a £25 cash prize and invitation for poster presentation at the 2021 MSD DPhil Day.

Overall best student question will receive a £15 cash prize and invitation for poster presentation at the 2021 MSD DPhil Day.
