MSD DPhil students (at any stage!), are invited to partake in a friendly virtual competition to celebrate research across the department, in the place of the postponed annual MSD DPhil Day.

Candidates will be given 5 minutes to show a scientific or creative presentation of their project. In the scientific stream, traditional poster or slides aid original communication of the research. In the creative stream, anything goes!

For fun (albeit no less competitive), invited judges will also take on the challenge, with just 10 minutes to cover a topic of their choosing, as creative and broad as desired!

How will the Research Slam work?

This is a two-stage competition; first the heats to select the finalists. Next the final.
This is a two-stage competition; first the heats to select the finalists. Next the final.
There will be four heats, held on fortnightly Thursdays, at 15:00-16:00 (BST), Zoom. Each heat will be themed either 'scientific' or 'creative'. You will therefore be competing solely against participants within your own stream, in both the heats and the Grand Finale.

Finalists from each heat will be announced 48hrs after the event. Each finalist will re-present their winning entries in the Grand Finale on 30th July 2020 (15:00-16:30), where cash prizes (and ultimate glory) await!

All successful entries will receive feedback from senior judges, and audience members, and have the opportunity to answer up to 3 minutes of questions.

The Research Slam is a fantastic opportunity to share your work and practise your virtual presenting skills, from the comfort of your own home.
