Eight years ago, there was an incredible breakthrough: the Neanderthal genome was first decoded. The greatest surprise was that most modern humans have inherited Neanderthal DNA, and that there is approximately two percent of their DNA inside everyone from outside sub-Saharan Africa. These genes have helped shape modern humans into what we are today, and they continue to affect us. So, what kind of people were our ancient ancestors?

CBC Massey Lecture with Tomson Highway (link in document below):   the document below includes links to this 5-part series broadcast on IDEAS, a CBC hour-long program.  The series highlights lectures by Tomson Highway, a First Nations author and playwright that covers five themes central to the human condition: language, creation, sex and gender, humour, and death - with a strong dose of humor.  Highway places the Indigenous view of females front-and-center much of the time while covering the other topics.  The series is well worth listening to!
