Name That Book is a Houston ISD competition sponsored by the Department of Library Services.
River Oaks will have two teams of six students: one for K-2 and one for 3-5.
Students read a list of 25 books. The K-2 books are primarily Texas 2x2 books, while the 3-5 books are Texas Bluebonnet nominees plus 5 additional books.
During the competition, teams are given a quote from one of the books and asked to name that book. The 6 team members must know the correct title of the book and write it down within one minute. The team receives one point for each correct answer.
Name That Book takes place in March 2026.
Kinder - 2nd Grade Team

The top 20 scoring students will continue on the team and meet every Monday from 3:05-3:45 until the next test (Monday, Dec 15th) which will cover the remainder of the books. The second test will determine the competition team which is comprised of 6 members and 1 alternate. Those 7 students will continue to meet until the competition in March. You may check out books from the ROE Library, to prepare for the first test! You can also check the Houston Public Library or Barnes and Noble for the books.
