Weather and Climate is goverened mostly by the gravity wave activity. Gravity wave is studied by recent scientists in number of ways and in different techniques are chosen to understand the basic physics beneath it. The importance of these kind of small-scale waves to quantify the energy and momentum budget disbursement to troposphere to upper atmosphere. "In situ" measurements are the most reliable source of knowledge about GWA while lack of coverage of than the satellite measurement make the use of the previous one limited.
Radiosonde is an instrument which can sense or measure temperature of the air surroundings as well as pressure, wind velocity, relative humidity and so on which are very useful to extract gravity wave activity of the respected region in troposphere.Altitude of ballonsondes are typically 0-35km from sea surface.
Satellite observations are more appropriate to measure gravity wave activity as it has wide range. Number of studies are found comparing satellitic observations with models and extract gravity wave parameters.
