Resources: Decodable Readers and Leveled Readers
Every week your child should read the following readers in this order as they get progressively more difficult (titles from Lesson #1 are listed as an example):
Journeys Decodable Readers -> Unit 1 -> first four stories ("Dan and Nan"; "Nat Cat"; "Nan and Dan"; "Fan, Fan, Fan")
Journeys Leveled Readers
Green Circle (Lesson #1 "Helping")
Purple Triangle (Lesson #1 "Sharing")
Royal Blue Square (Lesson #1 "Friends")
Each week, make sure that your child can fluently read a story before progressing on to the next one. Reading something fluently means that they can read it without making many mistakes. In order to accomplish this, your child may need to do repeated readings of the same story before moving on. For example, your child should read the decodable stories multiple times if necessary to achieve fluency. Once they can read each decodable without mistakes, they are ready to read the green circle leveled reader. Have your child practice that reader multiple times before progressing on to the purple triangle reader. If your child can read the purple triangle reader fluently, then they can try to read the blue square reader for a challenge.
Be sure to check out my Journeys Virtual Classroom. There is a room/slide for each week of the curriculum, with spelling words, sight words, decodables, leveled texts, read alouds, and fun activities.
