First grade homework should not be stressful! My goal is to provide fun learning activities that reinforce and extend the concepts and skills that are being taught in class.
The first day of school your child will come home with a red plastic folder that will be his/her homework folder for the year. I will send home a homework packet every Monday that will be turned in on Friday. The packet will include:
Spelling Packet with the week's spelling list and practice activities for Monday through Thursday which will help prepare students for the spelling test on Friday.
A weekly reading log. Please make sure to READ WITH YOUR CHILD FOR 20 MINUTES DAILY. This can include reading to your child, listening to your child read to you, or a combination of the two. Initial and write the number of minutes on your child’s reading log. The reading log will be turned in each Friday so that I can monitor reading activity. Be sure to take a look at the “Journeys” tab on the menu bar for lots of activities and online books that your child can read every week as we are learning new sight words and spelling words. Epic is also a great resource for books. Students can choose books at their level and also have the option of listening to the books read aloud to them.
As the school year progresses and students' reading skills increase, I will send home book reports for students to complete from time to time.
