In the documents below, the focus was on first creating a new number system, and then understanding the early number systems from centuries ago. These sections were really interesting to me becasue we were able to see a little bit of how people interpret numbers and how they may have used them in everyday life. I learned how different systems relate to different functions. Some systems are based on calander days, some are based on othr things. I think that this helped me to see the importance of understanding the background of the systems we are working, because a base 60 system and a base 2 system will have very different ansers to the same problems, and if we dont understasnd the background to them we will not be able to work efficiently on these kinds of problems. This can be brought into my classroom by having students do similar activites that will introduce them to the importance of understanding the system and knowing that numbers are just representatives and can be replaced by any other digit and still have the same meaning.
