Students are responsible for maintaining an organized Reading Notebook / Binder. This is a 1" binder with 5 sections. Students should put all handouts and information in their binder. Binders will remain in my classroom on a shelf unless otherwise indicated. If students lose a binder, it is their responsibility to replace it as soon as possible.
You will always have an Independent Reading book with you. Once you have self-selected a book, it is the expectation that you are reading that in school (during class, when you have extra time in other classes or KICK time) and at home. It should be brought to class everyday. All students will have access to my personal Classroom Library as well as the AHJS library from which to check out books. It is the expectation that a student has a book that they are actively reading in class everyday. The goal is for a student to read as many books as they possibly can this year. Once checked out, that book is your responsibility! It is expected that you will care for and respect that book as if it were your own.
PARENT NOTE: As part of our reading journey, I will be regularly recommending books to students based on their individual interests, preferences, and reading abilities. My goal is to help each student find books that they will enjoy and that will challenge them to grow as readers.
However, I understand that every family has different values and perspectives on what is appropriate for their child. While I will do my best to recommend books that align with each student’s needs, I want to emphasize that parents and guardians have the final say in what is suitable for their child to read.
I encourage parents to discuss book selections with their child and to review any recommended books together. If there’s ever a book that you feel is not a good fit, I’m more than happy to help your child find an alternative that both you and your child feel comfortable with.
If you need to use the restroom, you will need to hold up the 'R' sign language sign. Once I've acknowledged you and said you can go, you will need to sign out and take a bathroom pass to the closest restroom. You may not leave the first or last 10 minutes of class.
If you ever need to leave class to go to the office, counselor, or nurse, you will need a special pass from me and you must sign out.
I have Chromebooks that will be assigned to seats /tables. If you are assigned to that seat/table, that computer is your responsibility. You will use the technology appropriately and respectfully or you will lose those privileges in my class.
There is no food or eating in my class. You may only have a sealed water bottle.
