Grading Policies
Your child will be graded in each subject (math, reading, spelling, writing, handwriting, music, PE, Spanish, art, science, social studies and health/SEL) based on a straight point percentage. Some assignments will have a greater weight than others, as they may require more effort or higher level thinking. Rubrics will be used as often as is appropriate, as I believe they are a great tool to show students expectations and allow the opportunity for guided self-reflection of their work. Your child will also receive an overall effort grade for every subject each week that may be taken from an assignment completed in class or may be based on participation, behavior, and effort for the week.
Grades can be checked via Q/Zangle and will be updated frequently. If you have a question about your child's grade at any point, please do not hesitate to reach out. I am always happy to discuss the reasoning behind a grade. Also, I am human and sometimes may make a clerical error when entering grades, but I will always be happy to fix it should that be the case.

Portfolio
Your student and I will work together to develop a portfolio of their work. The goal of the portfolio is to show each student’s growth and accomplishments over the year and can also be used as a wonderful assessment tool. We will have portfolio shares during conferences, where students can show off, reflect on, and celebrate all their hard work.
