Let's Take a Stroll....
Zoom in to see where Henrietta Street is. It is Dublin's most famous Tenement Street.
Henrietta Street is the most intact collection of early to mid-18th century houses in Ireland.
The houses were built in the 1720's as homes for Dublin’s most wealthy and elite families.
By 1911 over 850 people lived on the street, over 100 of those in one house, here at 14 Henrietta Street.

What is a Tenement? What were they like?
The horrible reality of living in a tenement house...
At their peak prior to the First World War, approximately 20,000 families lived in single rooms in tenement housing
Dublin tenements contained some of the worst urban poverty to be found in western Europe.
Given that so many of Dublin’s natives descended from the tenements, make sure to ask at home if any of your family descends from the tenements!
