Why is Reading Important?
While technology grows to the center of our lives, it is important to maintain a cultural understanding of the value of a good book. While reading does expand knowledge, vocabulary, and critical thinking skills, it is a skill necessary to function effectively in modern society. To vote, work most jobs, or even order from a menu, people must understand how to read fluently and effortlessly.
Why is good literature important?
Having the skill of reading is a necessary part of life, but involving quality literature in one's life has many benefits beyond the obvious. Yes, maintaining a habit of reading keeps a sharp mind, but reading quality literature also ensures one's heart grows with empathy, and that the mind can take a break from screens (I promote reading physical books, though reading digitally has its benefits, as well).
