你有看過愛麗絲夢遊仙境嗎？當中最經典角色一定是瘋帽匠 (Mad Hatter)！原來這個角色是有歷史考據的！瘋帽匠 (Mad Hatter)看起來瘋瘋癲癲的，是因為當時的帽匠們曾經會因為一種叫做汞的毒素而生病！在1899年，英國的帽匠用汞來製作帽子，結果讓很多帽匠都腦部受捐，行為變得瘋瘋癲癲，脾氣暴燥。幸運的是，現今人們開始認識到汞的危險性，汞的工業用途受到嚴格監管，再不會有可憐的瘋帽匠了。

Why Was the Mad Hatter Mad?

The Mad Hatter in Alice in Wonderland acted crazy, right? That's because hat makers used to get sick from a poison called mercury! The hatter used it to make hats in the UK in 1899, and it made them confused and sick, just like the Mad Hatter. Luckily, people learned how dangerous mercury was and now they're much safer when they use it. The industrial use of mercury is strictly regulated nowadays.
