(Hijab)

Hijab: A Head Coveing for Muslim women

The Arabic word hijab (حجاب), meaning "to cover," is commonly used to refer to the head and body covering worn by many Muslim women.  This practice is often associated with observing modesty within Islamic teachings and is typically adopted upon reaching puberty.  The wearing of a hijab is generally observed in the presence of adult males who are not close family members and may also be observed in the presence of adult non-Muslim women outside of one's immediate family.
