  • Make sure you bring your personal protective equipment to class each day: CSA approved eye protection, CSA approved foot wear and COVID masks. It would also be a good idea to bring CSA approved hearing protection as most equipment used in the shop are very loud.

  • Reminder that we well need to frequently wash our hands and sanitize tools/equipment when you're finished using it and returned to the tool room or another student uses it.

  • Home day work will need to be completed daily. This assigned work page and the MSTeams page will have adjustments done to them periodically, primarily to due dates for assignments.

Safety for Shop Equipment

Always leave the guards engaged, blades lowered or in the locked position after using machines/tools in the shop.

Class Work/Home Day Work List:

  1. We will start this safety unit in the classroom and computer lab and then you will have to finish it up at home. We will start with our Safety unit by going to my student tutorial page; then go to the NBCSA's Safety page on my Student Tutorials page; get your code from your classroom teacher. You must complete the safety unit and have all of your CSA personal protective equipment before going in to the shop to work!

  2. The first set of worksheets, for your Home day work, on measuring and drafting are here (click). I'll pass these sheets out to you 2 at a time. When you complete a set of sheets, return them to me to be marked and I'll get you the next set. I also have a link to them, on my assigned work page, in case you misplace a set or there is a set here for you to use as well. You can print them off from home if you misplace the set I give you. There are 35 assignments @ 5 each. Don't worry about the weighting of the marks. Value 40 marks.

  3. Do this work in the class room and then finish on your Home day. Stationary Power Machine Safety Module - Each stationary power machine will be on a single sheet of paper. To be handed in as one 9 page assignment including a title page. There are 8 machines in the shop. You can choose the order. The top half of the sheet will be the drawing; it has to be labelled. But, I want the drawing to be hand drawn and hand labelled either using a pencil and paper or in MSPowerpoint's drawing tools. The bottom half of the sheet needs to have 10 Safety rules for the machine that you're doing. Machine Safety Module Requirements. Value 80.

  4. Do this work on your home day and then we'll go to the shop to do that part of it. Squaring workpieces to size. What is the main equipment you would use? List the steps for squaring a piece of stock? Value 10 for the theory part and 10 for the practical. Total 20. Watch the (How to Square Your Stock - Wood Magazine; 1:30 minutes)

  5. Do this work in the class room and then finish on your Home day. Electrical Tools Presentation - Make a presentation of the tools that a Residential electrician would use to wire a house. Minimum of 15 different tools, you must include a title page, diagrams of each tool, fully explain the use of the tools, safety for each tool and their maintenance/care regime. Value 40.

  6. Draw a residential wiring diagram for your first electrical wiring assignment in the shop. Use proper electrical symbols, device orientations and cable count markings for conductors. Include a legend for your electrical symbols. Value 10
