Days based on 65 minute periods, 90 day semester
This course is designed to give students the tools they need to make informed choices about their own health and wellness. It is most relevant to students going into careers in social sciences, kinesiology and health care. It will cover all of the major systems of the body, as well as a focus on mental health, social health and lifestyle choices.
Various types of Wellness: Students will be learning about various types of wellness and creating a holistic wellness plan for the duration of the semester.
Human Digestive System: Students will explore the functions of the digestive tract as well as things that can negatively impact the digestive system.
Human Skeletal, muscular and integumentary systems: Along with learning the names and functions of the various parts of these systems, students will also explore factors that can hinder the overall health or functionality of these systems.
Human Circulatory and Respiratory systems: Students will explore the functions of the digestive tract as well as things that can negatively impact the digestive system.
Human Endocrine and Reproductive systems: After this unit, students should be able to make connections between the two systems as well as how they connect to others systems of the body.
Human Nervous System: The class will cover features of a healthy nervous system and what can hinder the functionality of this system and the role it serves in the entire body.

Requirements of the course:
Come to class prepared & on time.
Bring your text, student agenda, 3-ring binder or note book for this course, pen and pencil every day
Complete daily homework assignments, attend class regularly, and be present for all assessments.
Marking will be done by checking submitted assignments, in-class assignments, presentations, project work, web activities, regular testing and class participation. Some marking will be done, by observation, during class time.
Assignments - 30% (practical everyday work
Quizzes - 20% (related themed projects)
Tests - 30%
Exam/Final Project/Presentation - 20%
Please note:
If you miss school, you must get the notes and assignments you have missed. It is your responsibility to catch up on missed work. Ask another classmate or me.
If you miss a TEST day, you must have an acceptable excuse or a mark of zero may be given.
Homework checks (worth marks) take place several times each week. Homework is NOT an option in this course.
Behavior Journal - all aspects of students behavior and performance is and will be documented.
Standards:
Be on time.
Tardiness - make up time, 20 minutes for the first time, time doubles after that.
Only water is allowed and only at the desks, not near computer equipment.
Cell phones are not permitted in this class. I absolutely don't want to see them. If a student chooses to use their phone in class, they risk consequences such as noon time, loss of other privileges and the phone sent to the office.
Discipline will be similar to "real world" work place.
Abuse/Misuse of school property will not be tolerated.
Remain seated.
Raise your hand if you need help and be patient.
Be quiet and remain quiet.
Maintain your Workstation, keep it neat, push in chairs, put things away, etc. (Marks on each report)
Be respectful.
Expectations:
Do not disrupt the teaching environment by speaking when I'm talking to the class. Raise your hand if you need to talk when I am.
Students are expected to stay on task and complete all mandatory exercises, in an efficient manner.
Students are expected to come to class prepared with all materials for that class.
Students will not be allowed to be excused during class time unless an emergency arises and then students must ask permission. No one is allowed to leave without permission unless they like to make up time. (10 minutes)
Students who require help during class time must raise their hands. All other times they are to remain seated and stay quiet.
