Housing and design is intended for students who wish to increase their awareness of the housing environment and the implications of technological advancement. Housing decisions represent the single largest expenditure of the family income for the majority of households. The course demonstrates the value of creativity and individuality in designing a living environment.
Objectives:
1. To raise awareness of architectural esthetics.
2. To understand the motivating factors that have an impact on the economy and environment.
3. To analyze the elements and principles of design as the apply to interior décor.
4. To appreciate individual creativity through interior design.
5. To examine technology options in the living environment.
6. To recognize issues related to human needs and their projection on future housing trends.

Requirements of the course:
- Come to class prepared & on time: Bring your 3-ring binder for this course only (with dividers), pen and pencil every day, and additional materials upon request.
- Complete daily assignments, pass work in on time, attend class regularly, participate, model respect and be present for all assessments.
Evaluation:
- 20% class marks
- 30% Projects, homework assignments
- 50% Assessments
- Term 1 mark = 40% of course mark (mark based on homework, assignments, projects, tests and participation)
- Term 2 mark = 60% of course mark
- Final Project= 40% of Term 2 Mark
Please note the following:
- If you miss school, you must get the notes and assignments you have missed. If you are making up class time arrange a time at noon with the subject teacher.
- If you miss a TEST day, you must have an acceptable excuse or a mark of zero may be given. Since all tests are done on the computers using software specific to the lab, test re-writes have to be done in the lab and at a time arranged with the subject teacher. Usually at noon or before school.
- There will be a Final Project for this course.
- Behavior Journal - all aspects of students behavior and performance will be documented.
STANDARDS AND EXPECTATIONS FOR STUDENTS
Standards:
- Be on time.
- Tardiness - make up time, 20 minutes for the first time, time doubles after that.
- Only water is allowed and only at the desks, not near computer equipment.
- Cell phones are not permitted in this class. If a student chooses to use their phone in class, they risk consequences such as noon time, loss of other privileges and the phone sent to the office.
- Discipline will be similar to "real world" work place.
- Abuse/Misuse of school property will not be tolerated.
- Remain seated.
- Raise your hand if you need help and be patient.
- Be quiet and remain quiet.
- Maintain your Workstation, keep it neat, push in chairs, put things away, etc. (Marks on each report)
- Be respectful.
Expectations:
- Students are expected to stay on task and complete all mandatory exercises, in an efficient manner.
- Students are expected to come to class prepared with all materials for that class.
- Students will not be allowed to be excused during class time unless an emergency arises and then students must ask permission. No one is allowed to leave without permission unless they like to make up time. (10 minutes)
- Students who require help during class time must raise their hands. All other times they are to remain seated and stay quiet.
