My name is Jamie Scordino. I grew up in Vestal, NY and moved to Wilmington in 2009 after I graduated from my undergraduate program. I attended SUNY Geneseo where I received my Bachelor of Science in Elementary and Special Education with a second major in Mathematics in 2009. I began my career at Columbus Charter School in Whiteville, NC where I worked as a special education program founder and teacher (1 year), third grade teacher (2 years), and later as the program coordinator for the special education program for all grades K-7. I joined the Bradley Creek Elementary staff in January 2013 to work as an Intensive Behavior Support teacher (1.5 years). In May 2013, I completed my Masters of Arts in Education from East Carolina University with a major in Special Education: Emotional and Behavioral Disorders. Then I worked as a fourth grade teacher for two school years, where my students virtually visited over 20 National Park sites. During the 2014-2015 school year, I completed the ELMS grant at the University of North Carolina- Wilmington, which allowed me to take six graduate classes in English as a Second Language and prepared me for my ESL teaching license. For the 2015-2016 school year I worked exclusive with middle school math content as a pull-out and push-in special education teacher. It was one of my favorite school years, which is what brought me to Skyline High School this year to teach math. Having taught math at all levels from Kindergarten to Algebra 2, I have a unique perspective on the way the standards connect, where students need to be, and where students need to go.
