Writing!

In first grade, we use Benchmark Universe to develop strong writing skills across a variety of genres, including narrative, opinion, and informational writing. We also use the Think SRSD model to support nonfiction writing and written responses to reading. This structured approach helps students plan, organize, write, and revise their ideas with increasing independence.

Students learn to communicate their thinking clearly while using details and evidence from texts. We regularly make time for students to share and celebrate their writing with partners, helping them grow in confidence and learn from one another.

Writing instruction also includes a strong focus on handwriting, spelling, capitalization, punctuation, and complete sentences. Our goal is to help students become confident writers who can clearly express their ideas and take pride in their work.
