Chemical Reactions (Part A): Types of Chemical Reactions
Overview/Rationale:
In this unit students balance chemical equations that represent a reaction, supporting the fact that mass is conserved during a chemical reaction. Students categorize the five major types of reactions, predicting products for some of these reactions.
Vocabulary
Chemical equation, reactant, product, skeleton equation, coefficients, balanced equation. Synthesis (combination) reaction, decomposition reaction, single replacement reaction, double-replacement reaction, combustion reaction, activity series of metals, activity series of non-metals
