English Language Arts

In quarter one, students will be studying Folklore of Latin America.  As students read a novel and research about Latin American folklore monsters they will be preparing for this module's performance task.  The performance task will challenge the 8th grade students to publish their own narratives that represent an imagined monster written into a new scene of Summer of the Mariposas.  Then, students will write an informative essay comparing the folklore monster they researched with the imagined monster in their narrative.
