Guidance Lessons Scheduled for 2024-2025
(Lessons are subject to change)
August: Meet the Counselor & Understanding the counselor’s role.
September: The Zones of Regulation: Understanding our feelings and defining emotional regulation.
September: Triggers: The things that cause us to have big feelings.
October: My Incredible Talking Body: The physical signals/cues our bodies give us about our emotions.
October: The Size of the Problem: Recognizing the size of our problem and learning to match our reactions with the size of the problem.
November: The Power of our Thoughts: Recognizing the connection between out thoughts, feelings and behavior/actions.
December: Tattling vs. Reporting (K-2nd). Empathy and other people's feelings/perspective taking (3rd-5th).
January: Expected and Unexpected behaviors, and how they impact the way others feel about us (K-4th). 6th Grade Transition (5th).
February: Kindness, being a friend, and healthy friendships (All).
March: Growth Mindset (All).
April: Choices and consequences (K-2nd). Test Anxiety (3rd-5th).
May: Teamwork & Sportsmanship (K-2nd). Peer Pressure & Decision Making (3rd-5th).
It's never too early to begin teaching kids about their feelings, to recognize and name them. We want kids to know that all of their feelings are important.
