Teaching Expectations
At the beginning of the year, I will explicitly teach these expectations through discussions, modeling, and interactive activities. Each rule will be introduced one at a time, followed by examples, non-examples, and role-playing scenarios.
Modeling Expectations
Personal Example: I will demonstrate expected behaviors in my own interactions with students.
Student Modeling: I will invite students to role-play different scenarios to reinforce each rule.
Anchor Charts & Visuals: I will create posters that display expectations in simple, student-friendly language.
Teaching & Practicing the Rules
Week 1-2: Each day, we will focus on one rule and practice it through activities such as discussion circles, partner work, and class challenges.
Integrated Assignments:
Writing prompts on what respect looks like.
Group activities requiring teamwork and responsibility.
Games reinforcing active listening and engagement.
Posting the Rules
Behavior Board: Rules will be displayed prominently at the front of the classroom.
Providing Feedback and Praise
Immediate Recognition: Praise for positive behavior as soon as it is observed.
Class Rewards: Implementing a point system where students earn rewards for demonstrating expectations.
Shoutouts: Recognizing students during morning meetings.
Reteaching Expectations
Ongoing Reviews: Weekly check-ins and mini-lessons on behavior expectations.
After Breaks: Expectations will be reviewed after long weekends and holiday breaks.
As Needed: If certain behaviors become an issue, I will address them immediately through small group discussions or class meetings.
