Bella

Meet Bella!

Bella is a two year old Labrador Retriever, who will be joining Mrs. Taylor from time to time at Luther Elementary.  Luther Elementary School uses a certified therapy dog to enhance the counseling program.  Research has shown that therapy dogs teach, listen, and are unconditional friends.  Research further shows the interaction with a therapy dog in school can reduce blood pressure; promote physical healing; reduce anxiety, fatigue, and depression; and provide emotional support for students and teachers.  A 2019 study published by the National Institute of Health found that a dog present in the classroom promotes positive mood and provides significant anti-stress effects on the body.  We know that our therapy dog also provides a sense of comfort, confidence, and companionship to students.

Mrs. Taylor, our counselor, and her dog, Bella, have been certified through A New Leash on Life to provide therapy dog services in schools, hospitals, nursing homes, and many other places. Bella may be used in guidance lessons, small groups, and some individual sessions while visiting Luther Elementary.
