A promise is to tell someone that you will or will not do something.

Making a promise

• I will definitely + BASE VERBALE +………………

I will definitely tidy my room. Je vais assurément ranger ma chambre (definitely = c'est sûr)

• I promise you I will + BASE VERBALE +……..

I promise you I will hoover the carpet. Je te promets que je vais aspirer le tapis.

• I swear to God that I will + BASE VERBALE +………….

I swear to God that I will do my best. Je jure (devant Dieu) que je vais faire de mon mieux.

Cette expression est assez courante au Etats-Unis.

• It’s a promise that I will + BASE VERBALE +…..

It's a promise that I will take care of the dog. Je vais m'occuper du chien, c'est une promesse.

• It’s a promise. (c'est une promesse)

• You have my word (vous avez ma parole)
