What we are doing in class:
10/20-10/23: For our short class today, we did some ripped paper pet art! Your kids are very creative and I love to see how they all put their unique touch on their art!
10/13-10/15: We are finishing up our store hours/store staff exercises and any inventory lists to open our store. Pet art work can be done for those that are finished. We are working on all the steps required to open a store, and students are learning that there is a lot to do to run a business!
10/6-10/8: We worked on store hours and staffing needs. What are the roles of people working in our store?
9/29-9/31: We worked on our opening inventory and started pricing items in our store. We discussed mark up today.
9/22-9/24: We practiced making change today and we played a game with money. We need practice in making change and counting money in order to run our business.
9-/15-9/17: This week we designed a logo for our pet store. We discussed the difference between a logo and a mascot. Students now have both for their store and your kids are super creative! I love watching their businesses come together. We also worked on our initial inventory lists and our initial investment costs to get started.
9/8-9/10 - This week we are discussing goods vs. services, needs vs wants and consumers vs producers. We will brainstorm some of the things we want/need for our stores and some of the goods/services we will offer as well.
8/25-8/27 - Today we did inventory math! We learned what inventory in a store means and we built our wish list of the inventory that we want to sell in the store. They used calculators to figure out the total cost for each item and how much they need to spend to fill their store. They had a starting budget of $10,000. They all did great using calculators, doing multiplication and thinking through what it will take to stock a store. I love to hear them planning how their stores will run!
8/18-8/20 - This week we did a brainstorming session to think of all of the things they would want to sell in their pet store. We had every thing from axolotl to octopi to tigers! We had a good discussion about what makes a good pet, and what pets are legal. Then students designed a mascot for their pet store. Your kids are so creative!
