"ALL ABOUT ME" BAGS
As part of a “getting to know you” activity, we would like welcome the Pre-K children to share things about themselves with their classmates. Please help your child find 2-3 things that represent them and place them in this bag. Some ideas may include an object that is their favorite color, or a label/package of their favorite food, or something they may collect. It could also be a picture of someone/something they love. Please make sure they fit in the bag. Finally, have fun helping your child to decorate the bag - you can use crayons, markers, stickers, glitter, etc. Your child will present his/her bag on the date written on the bottom.
We look forward to learning more about your child
Letter Table Items
All Pre-K 1 children are encouraged to bring in an item from home that begins
with our "letter of the week" to be placed on our letter table for the week.
It can be brought in any day during the week and will remain there until
Friday when all items will be sent home. The children will get the chance to
present their item to the class.
Traveling Teddy
Teddy is our class bear. Each child will have the chance to bring him home for a weekend. He travels inside of a backpack along with a marble copybook. The children are encouraged to take Teddy on adventures over the weekend, sleep with him, play with him, and introduce him to family members. The children are also instructed to take good care of Teddy by keeping him inside of his backpack when not playing with him and handling him with care. Parents are encouraged to find the next empty page in the copybook and write about what his/her child did with Traveling Teddy over the weekend - and pictures can be included as well (real or drawn). Traveling Teddy will be sent home on Friday and should be returned on Monday.
Star of the Week
Starting in late October/early November, a student will be chosen each Friday to be the "star of the week" for the upcoming week. The child will be sent home with their "All About Me" posters and the parents are encouraged to assist the child in completing it. It should be done together, not just by the parent. When they return on Monday, their poster will be hanging up for all to see and they will get the chance each day to talk about a section of their poster using our "star" microphone and wearing our "star" glasses. On Friday of that week (their last day) they are encouraged to bring in a "show and tell" and/or a treat to share with the class.
Family Book
One of our Religion themes focuses on families. During this time we create a class family book. Papers will be sent home that should be completed together. Again, parents should be assisting their child with completing them, not doing it for them. Once all papers are returned, they will be compiled into a special family book. Each child will get the chance to bring the book home for one evening to share with families.
