Welcome To Virtual Home Base
Hello and welcome to our MRMS Virtual Home Base!
Mrs. Johnsen's office hours: Monday through Friday, 8 to 3.
Please use the button below to send an email to Mrs. Johnsen to set up an appointment on Google Chat.
Hello everyone, I miss you all very much, but I put together some fun things in Virtual Home Base. Make sure you try and find it all!
I'll be posting a Vlog, which means you all will finally get to meet Rowan and Oak. I've wanted to bring my dogs to MRMS for a long time, and now they get to be Virtual Home Base's support animals! Two more support animals might pop in to say hi as well, so keep your eyes peeled!
I'll be providing links to the Home Base resources at the bottom of this page so you can create your own Home Base, how cool is that? Also watch for different Google Docs with study skills, help with anxiety and calming techniques in the Tools section. Are you having some problems with Google Classroom or other technical challenges? Look under the How To Videos for Remote Learning Page for help!
Check out the Be A Good Person: Masks On! page for pictures of teachers and staff wearing their Be A Good Person shirt and face masks. Want to join in on the fun? Take a picture and send it to me at kjohnsen@dcsdk12.org
Some of your teachers might get a page in the Home Base website as well, so be on the lookout for that, along with an e-Journaling page.
Go to the Vlog page to watch the latest episode!

The Home Base Music
When you visit Home Base I always have this YouTube channel playing in the background. You can have this playing in the background while you are working on your online assignments. Music is very powerful! My hope is that by listening to this music it will bring back memories of some of the positive experiences that you had at Home Base.
Home Base Resources on Amazon
Here are links to some of the most popular resources that students use in Home Base.
The Beach chill out area, now as a Virtual Walk!
Our beach chill out area has always been a favorite. Now you can experience a relaxing walk along the beach. I've done mindful walks with a lot of you, why not try a mindful virtual walk in Hawaii?
Mindfulness on Calm
Most of you have been introduced to Mindfulness on the Calm Website. I have the link above so that you can use this resource at home. Remember the trick we do with the balance board? How about showing someone at home?
*Please note that this app only provides a free trial for 7 days.
Mindfulness with Insight Timer
Insight Timer has hundreds of free meditations to help you create a mindfulness practice at home. You can use Insight Timer to help with trouble sleeping, working through anxiety or to play relaxing music while you work.
Be a Citizen Scientist
Zooniverse is a platform where Citizen Scientists (that means you) can help with real science online. Some of you have helped find animals in camera traps in Africa while in Home Base. This is something that will help you calm yourself and regain your focus, all the while you will be helping scientist make new discoveries!
