T: Snow day

W: We learned area of a sector and updated our memory aid. Quiz tomorrow.

T: Introduced the concept of square root and how we can use it to find the radius of a circle. Workbook pages 140-143 for extra practice.

M: We learned about the area of a disc. Practice workbook p. 141

17 - 21

F: Activity day. No formal classes.

T: Reviewed arc length proportion, then reviewed everything we've done so far with circles.

W: Students were challenged to discover how we can find the arc length of a circle.

T: Today we learned about the relationship between a circle's circumference and its diameter. We introduced Pi. We used formulas to solve for C, D, and r. p. 136-137 assigned for extra practice.

M: Students started with a C4U on the parts of a circle. We took notes on how to find the center of a given circle using perpendicular bisectors. Then we practiced in our workbook.

F: We will recap the parts and properties of a circle. Quiz next Tuesday.

T: We discussed and reviewed our C1 and C2 exams.

W: Today we introduced the circles unit and learned about the different parts

W11: Today we took notes on proportions and then attempted a learning challenge.

T10: We reviewed notes taken then had a learning activity creating ratios/rates.

M09: Students finished notes on rate/ratio and then worked in their workbook.

W04: Students had a choice between studying for a big geography test or practicing for their situational problem.

T: We learned how to read and interpret information from a graph. p.87-89

W: Practiced points on a Cartesian plane with Battleship!

T: We continued work on finding coordinates from a function's rule. Corrected p. 76-77. Worked on p.79-80 and how to graph coordinates on a Cartesian plane from a table of values.

M: We recapped what we knew about Cartesian plane and began talking about using a rule to find table of values. p. 76-77 for practice if not done.

18 - 22

T: Today we corrected our End of Algebra test and worked on the Summer Job activity. Due next Friday, Nov. 29

W: We added a Cartesian plane to our memory aid, had a C4U, and finished pages 71-74 in our workbook.

T: Today we practiced work on Cartesian plane. p.71-73

M: Today we started Unit 3: Modes of Representation. p.70 for homework if not completed.

W: End of Algebra test. Next week we start Modes of Representation

T: We reviewed our end of term assessments, and worked on a review package for tomorrow's algebra test. Solutions attached here and on the Class Files page.

M: We finished our quiz. Mr. L handed back assessments.

T: Today we had a C4U on solving 3-step algebra equations. Students then worked on word problems with algebra. p.62 # 6,7; p.63 #10, 11, 12; p.64 # 13, 15; p.65 # 17. Try a few those that were not done for homework.

W: Today we learned how to solve algebraic word problems. p.61-62 was to practice.

T: We first practiced level 3 equations, then had a lesson on word problems in algebra. (workbook practice p.61

M: Today we finished our situational problem and then reviewed level 3 equations.

F: C1 Assessment - all class

W: C2 Assessment all class

T: Today we reviewed for our C1 & C2. Check out the Grade 8 Class Files page for extra blank copies and solutions. End of Term C2 test tomorrow.

M: After reviewing bellwork we split the class into 2: some listened to a lesson on solving level 1 and 2 equations, others started work on the C2 practice for Wednesday's test. Practice sheet is for homework. Mr. L will review answers tomorrow in class. Link to a digital copy here

T: Practice day. Finish work on level 2 and 3 equations pages. Homework: Begin studying for end of term assessment!

W: Today we had a C4U on Level 1 and 2 equations, corrected as a class. (Final marks on this to be given next week). Students then had time to work on workbook quetsions.

T: Today we finished our decoding activity, then introduced Level 3 equations. Students had time to work on level 2 or 3 problems.

M: Today Mr. L handed back work, including Thursday's test. We reviewed it together. For the remainder of the period we did an decoding activity.

15-18

M: Holiday. No classes!

T: Today we had a lesson on how to solve Level 1 algebraic equations. No homework assigned.

W: Practice day. Expressions and Level 1 equations. Study for tomorrow's test.

  • T: We corrected our Bellwork and played Algebra bingo to review translating phrases into algebraic expressions. (p.45-46). No homework except that which wasn't finished from earlier this week.
  • F: Today we updated our memory aid, corrected select workbook problems between pages 40-43, and finished the day with algebra bingo. Intro to Algebra test announced: Thursday, Oct. 17.
