Born and raised in central Maine, I have been a teacher at Deer Isle Stonington High School since 2001. Although my title is life science teacher, at a small school that means so much more. I have taught and created curricula for the following classes in my tenure: Marine Science, Marine Ecology, Marine Biology, Marine Pathways Biology, Marine Pathways Ecology, Maine Ecology, Anatomy, Creative Writing, Service Learning Physics, Biology, Investigating the Unknown, 8th Grade Physical Science, Basic Computer Skills, Senior Exhibition, and Senior Seminar. I have also been an active teacher leader in the school, facilitating PLCs and being a member of the leadership team for many years. I grew up in the Newport area and developed a love of the outdoors and nature that I took to the University of Maine where I earned a BA in Biology and a second major in Secondary Science Education in 2001. While at UMO I worked for the Wildlife Department as a field technician studying wood turtles and small rodents. I also spent summers teaching at Upward Bound where I learned to love to help students from many different backgrounds. I have always liked biology but as I have grown as a teacher my passion in my career has become making connections with my students. As I get further along in my career I feel the best way I can help educate students is to lead others and interact with students outside of the traditional classroom. I started taking classes in the spring of 2018 to work towards my administrative certificate.

At home, I have been married to my wife, Kim, since 2004 and she currently works in the Bucksport School System. We have two boys, Rance and Aven, that both attend Bucksport Middle School.
