Think Systematically about Practices

Education is an ever changing field with ever changing targets. We work with different students every year and those students need to be treated differently to get the best results. As I have gone through my career, it has been important to reflect on each and every assignment and whether or not that assignment got the results I desired. More importantly is the reflection on teaching methodology and classroom management. This reflection isn't just a yearly event but the constant way in which we adapt curriculum to a variety of students.

This year's biology was full of advanced students. This allowed me to reflect on past experiences and give them a more challenging genetics unit concentrating on controversies in modern genetics.

In another class I needed to simplify the class and often only explore 3 level material with the main group. This required me to change some assignments including the weekly article. I reduced the number significantly and provided the articles to the students. In this example I provided them with a chance to use NEWSela to help them learn to differentiate for themselves
