The History Major
Educational Facebook Page created by two of my History classmates at Misericordia University - Mr. Quinlan and Mr. Schaefer, and myself later turned into the Shamokin History Club's Magazine Page--The History Major.
Our goal is to create an engaging and beneficial forum for students (and anyone really) to share ideas, resources, and more. Our hope is to provoke academic conversation and to demonstrate the utility in Social Studies/Humanities to our HS students.
About: The internet proves to be one of the most important inventions of modern history. It allows the world to instantly share endless information. One of the largest vehicles for this happens to be Facebook. For many teenagers, Facebook holds a monopoly on your time. Facebook claims to have around 2.5 billion users. For many, this social media and networking website is used for posting updates, thoughts, complaints, memes, photos of your meals, trolling, and even tik toks. Not many students understand how many useful pages, articles, and cutting edge information is being overlooked everyday because of Tiger King memes. Our belief is that Facebook could be used as an extraordinary resource, instead of a rapid scrolling superficial junk mobile. Thus, our goal (several History & Social Studies Teachers) was “to facilitate intellectual exchange between those interested in Social Studies and the Humanities, while also providing students a variety of resources to further their education.”. We welcome & encourage our students to share ideas/information.
