Classes

AMERICAN CULTURES

American Cultures is a broad look into US history from the mid-1800's until the present. We will see history through various perspectives and survey the country's past, while also having students narrow their scope by completing research projects based on their own interests during each unit. 

CURRENT ISSUES

This course begins with a unit analyzing ideology, bias, and the political spectrum, while also teach various information literacy skills (data, online, social media, news, etc). After, we cover contemporary domestic issues, US-foreign relations/issues, and then Global issues. The class will include various readings, lessons, and projects to demonstrate mastery of the content.

History Seminar

History Seminar is designed as an intensive research, writing, presentation, and project-based class that will introduce students to the practice of conducting research in history, orienting their research into written work, and orally presenting that same research to an audience. In addition, students will have the opportunity to critique other students’ work while also receiving feedback from the teacher. Ultimately, the class will guide students through the various steps of research such as picking a topic, creating a thesis, using primary and secondary sources, writing drafts, self-critique and critiquing others, revising, historiography, interpreting data, creating data graphs, and working closely with the teacher at every step. In sum, our class will be a quasi-hybrid of social studies and technology.

CIVICS

This course examines and studies the history, philosophy, structure, and function of the U.S. Government. This course will be divided up into 14 Chapters (some Chapters may be consolidated and condensed) to comprise the school year.

PA HISTORY

This course examines the social, political, economic, cultural, and intellectual history of Pennsylvania from the Pre-Columbian Era to the present. In addition, our class will explore Pennsylvania's state government. The course will be divided up into 8 Chapters to comprise the school year along with extra activities and projects. 

US HISTORY

This course examines the social, political, economic, cultural, and intellectual history of the United States from Westward Expansion (mid-1800’s) to the present. This course will be divided up into 11 Units to comprise the school year.
