My name is Julio Cesar Botello, I come from a family of five children with two hard-working parents, and me being the youngest child. I have studied in Mexico for more than 16 years. I went through their educational system in a school that values and promotes a multilingual education philosophy. My educational journey has had its ups and downs, like everyone else's. However, in Mexico, shortly after starting what we can consider High School in America, I moved from Mexico to California to start 11th grade. I have personally experienced the ELD system in the United States. This enabled me to identify the issues and problems that students arriving in America with limited English proficiency face every day. The challenge I faced in learning a new language made me appreciate the value of education and teaching. My passion for teaching stems from the help that all my high school teachers gave me when I arrived in the States without knowing the language. My experience will help and guide my teaching to a level that my students will be able to overcome and facilitate the challenges language has put in their academic journey.
My academic journey in America has given me the opportunity to be part of the 2019 graduate class from Castle Park High School in Chula Vista, California. After graduating, I went through the process of applying to the university of my dreams. Although I was accepted to all of the universities I applied to, financial constraints ultimately influenced my decision to attend San Diego Community College. This next step in my education changed my life because it made me realize my love for the Arts and Humanities, especially for English. I graduated from Community College with an associate degree in English and Language Arts and Humanities in 2022. Later, I decided to pursue my educational goal and learn more about English and education. This opportunity allowed me to explore and learn more as an undergraduate at the University of California, San Diego, where I graduated with a Bachelor's degree in English Literature and a minor in Education Studies in 2024. I also did my Master’s in Education at UC San Diego and graduated with a BILA (Bilingual Authorisation in Spanish) certificate in 2025.
