As mentioned before, I make sure to talk to every single student in all of my classes at least once a day. In doing this, I can develop relationships and discover each student's individual needs to drive instruction. Along with face-to-face communication, I use the app Remind to send out any important announcements to students for due dates and upcoming tests.
Because I have all history courses, I try to implement current events into everything. At least once a week we will watch a 10 minute video called "CNN10" where we learn about current events and discuss what is going on in the world. This can lead to many assignments and projects. I also started to implement an activity called "StartSOLE," which allows students to practice research, collaboration, and speaking skills to design a short presentation that answers a specific question. When lecturing, I use attention grabbers to keep students engaged with the lesson at all times. One of my favorites is changing the color of important font to red on certain slides so students can distinguish the most important information.
