Prompt: "Examine the ways in which a global issue of your choice is presented through content and form of two of the texts you have studied"
Your extract must have a clear connection with a global issue. For example Gatsby and 'class / decadence / moral decay / indulgence / materialism/loneliness - could link with Tennyson and Lady of Shallot.
Students should 'Zoom out' to the broader work of the author - Poem - other poems, Photographs - other photographs etc.
No need to remember quotations. More about style, techniques, devices.
Global Issue = Significant on a large scale, daily impact, world-wide.
Examples: Culture, Identity & Community: family, class, race, community, sexuality, nationalism. Beliefs, Values & Education: Values, ethics, principles, laws, how they shape identity. Politics, Power & Justice: rights & responsibilities, governments, equality, peace, conflict. Art, Creativity & Imagination; Science, technology & environment: environmental issues, impact of technology.
Tips: A topic such as 'Gender' is too broad. 'Zoom in'. For example: 'How does gender bias affect writers choices and what is the affect on the reader?'
