At higher level you will undertake 2 internal assessments that will be externally moderated and 2 external exams at the end of your second year.
Internal = Individual Oral (40 marks / 20%) and High Level Essay (coursework) (20 marks/ 20%)
External = Paper 1 - (40 marks / 35%)
Paper 2 - (20 marks / 25%)
External Assessment
Paper 1:
2 unseen non-lit texts. Analyse both. 2hr 15min - 40 Marks - 35%
Paper 2:
Comparative Essay- Compare 2 literary works (not used for IO or HL Essay) - 4 unseen questions - Choose 1. 1hr:45 - 20 Marks -25%
Internal Assessment
Individual Oral (IO) :
Student prepares 2 passages (1 literature and 1 non-lit body of work) that have been covered in class. Connected by a global issue (GI).
Prompt: "Examine the ways in which a global issue of your choice is presented through content and form of two of the texts you have studied".
10 minutes talk time - 5 minutes of questions = 15 minutes
40 Marks - 20%
HL Essay
Coursework of 1200/1500 words. 20 marks. 20%.
Based on 1 text - Literary or non-literary covered during course - can choose 2 - i.e 2 adverts by same author, 2 poems by same poet. But at least 1 should be covered in class.
Can't choose text that has been used for another assessment.
