In the first semester, seniors learn about how the U.S. structures its government, the power of the Constitution, and the Supreme Court's involvement in our society. Students will explore contemporary issues that the Supreme Court hears and the impact its rulings have on local communities. The goal of the course is to develop civic engagement and restore trust in our democratic processes.
Student Work
Sculpt and Tell is an assignment where students jigsaw (evenly divide up) concepts of a specific topic, sculpt an image out of playdoh, and create a description based on guided questions. In this example, students learned about different leadership roles in Congress.
Student Work
"What politicians impact our local communities?"
"What legislation do students want to see passed through our Federal Government?"
"What advice would you give to someone running for office?"
Students volunteered to serve as poll workers for the 2024 General Election that saw voters vote for federal, state, and local officials in addition to propositions. Thank you to my student volunteers!
