Mallig Plains Colleges was founded on February 14, 1951 by Dr. Leocadio E. Ignacio, then an army captain, together with other civic-spirited citizens, namely: Mr. Juan A. Galapon, Mr. Felix C. Elefante, Mr. Pedro Y. Lactao, and Rev. Jose Pas Franada, in their strong desire to help provide further education to the children of poor immigrants beyond their elementary schooling. The leading founder, Dr. Ignacio, was inspired by the vision of his loving wife, Mrs. Victoria D. Ignacio, then a former public secondary school teacher, to continue serving the youth through education.
Impelled by this vision, the Founders also put up a library to cater to the educational and research needs of the students. The library only had limited collection starting with textbooks and some general references. The first library was situated at the ground floor of the old building with an area of 21 x 27 sq.m. But when the administration constructed new buildings to cater the growing population of the school the library was transferred at the third floor of the administration building occupying an area equivalent to five classrooms, to include the graduate, college, high school and elementary libraries. And in June 2005 the library found its home at the ground floor at the school’s former multi-purpose hall. And, finally a three-storey building is created to cater the fast-rising needs of students.
The new library is now centrally located and more accessible to all its clientele. Motivated by the desire for an accreditation to prove its worth, the Mallig Plains Colleges Library amazingly continues to acquire excellent library materials to enrich its collections in both print and non-print. The library adopts the open shelf system for easier access to the collections.
