Findings from Intervention Pilots

Four communities were visited to run the Intervention Pilots in January 2019. Preliminary qualitative analysis revealed:

Enrolment rates substantially increased in just two weeks.

Spillovers effects for out-of-school children living outside of the catchment area were found.

The content of the edu-tainment screenings inspired audiences.

The combined Social Norms and M-Learning intervention improved self-efficacy beliefs towards helping children to learn at home.

Parents reveal positive attitudes toward schooling enrolment for their children.

The M-Learning intervention also had spillover effects inside and outside the household.

Children continue using literacy apps after 2 weeks of receiving the device.

Despite the low literacy rates, a good proportion of children explored more advanced reading apps.

Using the mobile-learning device, children progressed very quickly toward more advanced reading levels 2 weeks after receiving the device.
