About Our Research
Daily life routinely requires the human mind to manage, prioritize, and filter large amounts of information. Our lab's research examines how individuals can use attention, working memory, and multitasking to succeed in high-load, mentally-taxing situations. We also investigate common cognitive errors like distraction and working memory overload.
Some of our ongoing research questions include:
Cognitive Offloading: Can offloading mental load by taking notes or using technology improve cognitive performance? What factors predict how often people take advantage of this strategy?
Media Multitasking: When given a choice whether or not to multitask, do people adjust their behavior according to task difficulty?
Zoom Fatigue: Do students experience higher levels of exhaustion and fatigue from video conferencing than in-person events? What are the correlates and drivers of this phenomenon?
