There are still several underrepresented groups in STEM, and we should be striving to create a world where everyone is well represented within the sciences. Diversity of backgrounds and experiences only strengthens research and I work to make sure that everyone I work with in the classroom, the lab, and public setting feels welcomed and included. I have helped run outreach programs specifically for underrepresented groups in STEM on Duke's campus, covering the intersections of gender and racial minorities. I have also worked outreach events in conjunction with the Durham Public Schools to make sure that our public school students have access to science and science resources.
Everyone deserves a space in science, regardless of ethnic, racial, gender, or sexual identities.
