Heckman Lab

The Heckman Lab is part of Shenandoah University's Engineering Physics program. We study bacterial electrophysiology, which is the electrical activity within bacterial cells. The ion gradient across a cell membrane creates the cell's membrane potential, and changes in this can impact cell growth and cell behavior. We study how the membrane potential changes in response to external stimuli and how we can leverage this to control cell growth and biomaterial deposition.
