ii. Direction des Ressources Marines (DRM)
“The duty of the Directorate of Marine Resources is to maintain the balance between the exploitation and preservation of resources. This mission is expressed through development actions, supervision of activities, implementation of regulations and control.” - DRM
The DRM, Direction des Ressources Marines, is an asset for fishermen and scientists alike. This government agency can help you determine which species you can collect, where you can collect them, support safety at sea, provide avenues for scientific communication, among other aspects of the scientific process.
The DRM works to collate research conducted on the islands to determine if the data can help with monitoring and control programs, coordinate future research and development actions, and to synthesize and transfer information to the public.
Scientists conducting research in protected zones or with protected species in Moorea can work with Gump Staff (station guide, staff) to secure approval (i.e. permits) to do so.
