Martin Sollanych grew up in Ontario and moved out west as a teenager with his family. He graduated from UBC with a degree in Electrical Engineering and worked in the Telecom Industry for 35 years. He is a Catholic Convert living in the the Greater Vancouver Area in Canada. He is married with three children and recently grandchildren. Martin has been on Cursillo twice and attended World Wide Marriage encounter. He attended World Youth Day in Toronto in 2002. He has been active in the Knights of Columbus for over 30 years.
Martin’s artistic endeavor began with oils, painting landscapes in the early 1980s, and then from 1985 to 1992 many of these religious paintings. His painting lapsed after 1996 due to increasing time with work and family. Switching to acrylics in part to reduce frequency of migraines, he resumed painting in 2006, primarily on landscapes inspired by trips to Hawaii and Tuscany and more recently Southwestern US. With an interest in the group of seven and the Impressionist movement, he is exploring these styles. Now retired, Martin is an active member of the Port Moody Art Association and is the past President and current Treasurer of Art Focus Artist’s Association of Port Coquitlam. Martin has taken numerous night courses in drawing and painting and has displayed works in local exhibitions.
