Matthew/Moth (they/them) is a filmmaker, photographer, writer, and queer nerd based in Pōneke who finds solace in the darkroom. Their visual work is driven by an appreciation of light and an attunement with the world. They’re drawn to non- and differently-conventional modes of narrative storytelling. They were the director of Safelight (2025), produced Rock & Roll (2023), and co-produced NZ Youth Film Festival nominee The Empathiser (2023). When they’re not busy contriving weird symbolic works, they can be found touching moss, rambling about wax moths, and battling imposter syndrome.
