Welcome to Montana Bohemian Artisans, where we take pride in crafting unique wool dreadlocks from the heart of Montana, USA. As a woman-owned and operated business, we are committed to sustainability, environmental responsibility, and the well-being of our community.
At Montana Bohemian Artisans, our journey begins with our own flock of sheep, whom we consider cherished members of our family. Raised with love and care, our sheep provide us with the finest wool, sourced directly from our pastures or locally grown feed. By treating our sheep as family pets rather than mere farm animals, we ensure their happiness and well-being, resulting in premium-quality wool that forms the foundation of our products.
Our dedication to sustainability extends beyond our farming practices. We are deeply committed to using 100% naturally sourced materials and prioritizing sustainable resources in every aspect of our production process. From the colorful array of wool dreadlocks we offer to the recycled and reused materials used in our packaging, we strive to minimize waste and reduce our environmental impact.
When you choose Montana Bohemian Artisans, you're not just purchasing a product; you're supporting a vision of sustainability, ethical farming, and community empowerment. Join us in our mission to create beautiful, eco-friendly products that reflect the natural beauty of Montana and the values we hold dear.
Thank you for being a part of our journey.
It all started with a few questions:
"How can I use my fiber in a different way?"
"How can I pull up my synthetic locs because they are heavy when I braid them?"
P.J. called Robin to ask what she thought the two could make to pull up the heavy hair.
Robin said she would do some research, but had better ideas.
Less than a week later four women sat in Robin's dining room in Billings, Montana with her and Megan' clean, dyed/natural wool. Liz came along as she was a friend of Megan and an extension expert.
The conversation went from making a bendable "hair tie" to a meeting with four women who made locs and braided into P.J.'s hair.

*Over 90% of our packaging is reused and upcycled. We work diligently to keep products out of the landfill! If you see any pastic packaging it is something that was either reused/upcyled or left over from some other project.
Our shipping boxes are remade boxes from bigger boxes that have come into our possession. Our "tape" is made from recycled paper with an adhesive that is added. If your box/package has tissue paper it is biodegradable.
Paper instructions - is either on recycled paper or homemade paper (yes we make the paper too!) from leftover papers we have in our possession.
